New year and new goals

Yes people, it is nearly that magical time of the year that you will start seeing the new year new me posts all over social media, but lets face it how many people actually change?

In reality there will not be a lot of people who follow through with their life changing plans, but why do so many people give up if they are so determined to change what they see as areas of improvements in their lives?

That is actually quite easy to answer, Change is hard!! Very very hard in fact. If you want to start changing who you are for the long term you will need so many things to go your way and you will need to be organised to make it happen. People do not plan and get the right tools in place before they commit to do something and this leads to a higher failure rates.

There is no right or wrong time to start change- why do people use new year to action goals? Have you got any goals in mind? Perhaps your wanting to shift them extra pounds from the festive season or perhaps you’ve got a business idea…

I am all up for making new year resolutions, and I have sent myself a challenge.  My goal of 2018 is to lose 5 stone. Yes 5 stone! It may sound like a huge challenge and I’m not saying it’s going to be easy but I can only try. I have dealt with depression and that often hasn’t helped. My weight is the biggest thing that gets me down and I feel often holds me back.  I have decided to start a blog to document my journey over the next 12 months. Hopefully I will also be able to inspire someone somewhere too and let them know they aren’t alone. If I can do this, then anyone can…

You don’t have to live a life that your not happy with, you are worth doing what it takes to be happy & healthy. So many people get stuck in this mentality of ‘I’m fat and always will be, so may as well accept it’ and it’s not true. People are stronger than they realize. You can change your life and capable of doing so.

I will reframe from putting on pressure on myself regarding my goal – If I achieve it then I will be over the moon. If I dont, well, as long as I tried then I will be happy.

So this new year I plan to let this be the best one yet. I will overcome my battle with my weight and build upon my self esteem. I have been thinking about what I can to do to achieve this and I’ve put a little list of a few tips to help you make those life changing changes that you are looking to do in 2017….

Little tips to help you over the next 12 months:

1. Write a list

Grab a piece of paper and write a list of what you are looking to achieve including the reasons why. This will make you think and hopefully will give you the determination when looking back upon when things get hard. Remember nothing in life is ever easy!

2. Break that list into smaller achievable goals with small rewards.

Focusing on smaller steps will allow you to achieve that main goal. If you look at whole picture this can be pretty scary and often puts people off. If you break your goal into small steps with a reward for achievement this will help keep you motivated as well as achieve the bigger picture. Trying to tackle something in one large jump can seem pretty daunting and often we lose interest.

3. Surround yourself with support and positive people

Positive people include your friends and family. A lot of people will try bring you down or throw a negative spin on things. People will judge you and often won’t support you.  Remember a lot of this comes from them seeing someone achieve something that cant’t. People don’t like when other people step outside their comfort zones. People don’t like when people make success of themselves and often this leads to jealousy. Be prepared to face a lot of battles on your own losing people on the journey.

4. Step forward not backwards

Always try to move forward and don’t focus too much on the past or a bad day. Draw a line under it and start fresh the follow day. Life will throw you things you were not expecting and all you can do is push forward. We are only human and sometimes we will fall of track.

The cool thing is when you make an improvement in just one area of your life, your whole life improves. You have the power. You have the strength. Whether you know it or not, you have the support. If you believe in yourself, you can do ANYTHING.  It is possible. Take the leap, I am here every step of the way…Follow my blog with Bloglovin
